Rules for Editing and Deleting Messages in Ommnio

This FAQ explains Ommnio’s rules for editing and deleting messages, detailing user permissions, transparency labels, and what admins can do in different chat scenarios.

Ommnio allows users to edit and delete messages—with built-in transparency to ensure clarity in communication.

Editing Messages

  • All users can edit their own text messages in any chat (group or one-on-one).
  • Edited messages will always show a “(edited)” label.
  • Admins can also edit messages that were posted by other admins using the group’s avatar.
    📌 Example:
If Maria posts as “Human Resources” and is away, her co-admin Nuria can correct the message on behalf of the group. But if Maria posted using her personal name, Nuria cannot edit it.
Important rules:
  • Admins and users cannot edit messages sent by others under their personal profiles.
  • Only text messages can be edited. For all other content types (audio, video, images, documents, forms), you must delete and resend if there’s a mistake.

Deleting Messages

  • All users can delete their own messages in one-on-one or open group chats.
  • A “Deleted message” label will remain where the message was.
  • Administrators can:
    • Delete their own messages, and
    • Delete messages posted by other users in groups they manage.
    • This is useful when a message contains confidential, inappropriate, or offensive content.

The deletion leaves a visible trace for transparency. Only admins can delete messages without leaving a trace, but only if they do so within 5 minutes of posting. This feature is designed to keep chats clean when correcting mistakes or typos.

What About Notifications?

Messages are sent to users’ devices with mobile notifications containing the original version.
Even if the message is later edited, the notification won’t change. However, when the user taps on it and opens the chat, they’ll see the updated version.
