What Is a Chat Group?
Enable collaboration and content sharing through flexible group chats.
A chat group in Ommnio is a space where users can share content and communicate with their teams or coworkers. These groups can be made up of individual users or entire teams. Depending on how they are configured, chat groups can be open—where everyone can write and send messages—or read-only, where only the administrator can post content.
Chat groups are one of the main ways users interact and find content within Ommnio, especially from the main screen of the app.
What are chat groups used for?
- Communication and file sharing: Chat groups allow users to exchange messages and access shared documents, media, and other files.
- User discovery and private messages: If a group is open, it also serves as a way for users to find and directly message each other—open groups show a list of all participants.
- Through the Ommnio API, you can connect your ERP or other internal systems and deliver any content or interaction directly to your users. Chat groups and one-to-one conversations with Bots allow you to send messages (text, images, videos, documents) and collect feedback through forms or actionable buttons based on specific situations. Group chats also provide users with the context they need to understand what is expected of them in each scenario.
Where can you create, edit, and manage chat groups?
- If you're an Account Administrator, you can view and manage all groups in your organization via the account settings, under the Groups section. You must join a group to see its contents or administer it.
- If you are a Team Administrator you can see all the groups of the teams you manage in the Groups tab. Join a group if you want to administer it or check its content.
- Whether you’re an Account Administrator or a Team Administrator, all the groups you belong to are available in the Chats tab.
